The Illinois Telephone Activist Network (I-TAN) Wants You!

Do you want an easy, quick way to make your voice heard on environmental issues? Join the Illinois Telephone Activist Network (I-TAN). The Illinois Chapter is developing a network of local group phone trees. Based upon where you live in the state, you will be assigned to a local phone tree. When an important environmental issue arises in the state or federal legislatures, action alerts notifying members of the issue will be passed down the network of local phone trees. Often this will just be a brief message left on your answering machine. You would pass on the action alert to few individuals on your local phone tree below you and leave your legislator a brief message. Calls to state and federal legislators are taken by receptionists who record the calls and tally the responses.

The Illinois Telephone Activist Network (I-TAN) is expected to be activated approximately 24 - 26 times a year. Volunteers will be directed to call a regional 24 hour I-TAN Hotline number to listen to a detailed message explaining the alert. There are currently five I-TAN Hotline numbers in operation in Illinois: DuPage County (630-690-4930), Lake County (847-680-6437), Peoria (309-745-1920), Carbondale (618-549-9684), and Alton (618-462-6802). By becoming a member of I-TAN, you will be informed when the Hotline messages have been updated. Volunteers who do not live near an I-TAN Hotline number will receive this information through their local groups. By joining I-TAN, you will be making a contribution to promote the passage of legislation that will ensure the protection of our environment.
