Conservation Workdays

The Northwest Cook County Group sponsors several workdays a year to help restore native ecosystems. Participants help by cutting Buckthorn, an invasive shrub which crowds out native plants, planting native wildflowers, or collecting seeds. Contact Greg Stolzer for more information at gpstolzer@hotmail.com.

Go to the bottom of this page for some photos of a January workday held at Spring Creek Forest Preserve. Girl Scout Troops 779 and 2237 from Clearmont School in Elk Grove Village came out and braved the 10 degree temperatures to clear invasive trees. A roaring bonfire and hot chocolate and hot soup provided by site stewards and volunteers helped keep everyone warm. Everyone did a fine job of clearing brush and trees that will one day help the site return to native prairie.

Date: Saturday, November 21
Time: 8:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Program Information: Help us continue our restoration work for Spring Valley Nature Sanctuary in Schaumburg. Meet in the Spring Valley parking lot at 8:45 a.m. We will work until about 11:30 a.m. or so. Gloves and tools provided.

Date: Saturday, January 30, 2010
